A little book that you may have heard of ...
Freakonomics is a coined word from Freak and Economics, to describe a form of economic analysis unconventional, to explain social phenomena so rational.
Some examples from the 4th coverage: "What is the relationship between the law of abortion and reduced crime in the U.S. why drug dealers do they live longer with their mother ?"... Through analysis of these specific situations, S. Levitt and S. Dubner, an economist and an American journalist, leads us to think about how to build popular belief, not always realistic, and have a look a little more rational about the contemporary economy. The writing is quite nice, it makes the subject fun, while raising some interesting ideas.
The book discusses particular issues such as asymmetric information of agents, and (perhaps) a tendency for men in all walks of life, to reproduce the established patterns.
A book of economic analysis that affects almost econometrics, and never return to complex mathematics. A reading over the holidays, or before the interviews (I think it is a book we can talk about easily, both in the economic sphere and with a fresh perspective)
You can find this book in paperback at your local bookstore, or on Amazon: http://www .amazon.fr/Freakonomics-Steven-D-Levitt/dp/2070341798/ref = sr_1_2? ie = UTF8 & s = books & qid = 1243367078 & sr = 8-2
Enjoy!
